Sustainability Still a Factor: According to international economic analysts, even though many countries are experiencing economic variables, sustainability is continuing to be a factor in business planning for the next five year period and beyond. Although, there is still some controversy on climate change causes, a number of multinational corporations are quietly incorporating environmental initiatives dealing with GHG, energy and facilities, into their budgets and long term planning. Also, some well positioned investment advisors are recommending that sustainability be an important element for investment opportunities. 

 

Prices of Raw Plastic Materials Predictions: Predictions are for the prices for raw plastic materials and manufactured products to fall due to the slowdown in global demand. China, a large consumer of plastic materials, reports a contraction in industries using plastics such as light manufacturing, and exporting of finished goods. Exports from China of plastic products from bags to office furniture have diminished and are not expected to increase until the first quarter of next year. This raw material price leveling could produce a reduction of the costs of plastic packaging products and increase competitive pricing. 

 

ARAMARK Catering Services: ARAMARK catering services announced it has eliminated foam packaging for foods at the University of Florida’s Gainesville Campus. Reports indicate that this will divert 1.2 million units, an equivalent of 17,000 cubic feet of foam from landfill. It was also said that a number of food outlets such as Chili’s, Jamba Juice, KFC and Burger King have replaced their foam products with paper based products that are made with renewable recycled resources.
