One of the keys to optimal drying numbers is the solids content of the product entering the dryer. Every 1% increase in solids will typically result in just over 4% less gas usage. Typical solids for conventional forming can range between a poor solids of 24% to a great solids content of 30- 31%. The factors influencing this are almost limitless but include, vacuum , freeness of fibre, stock temperature, cycle time, tool and screen design and a big one is whether or not you are wet pressing.
